Our History
In 1991, a group of family child care providers gathered at a Clayton County home to discuss ways they could work together to improve their businesses and form a support network. That group became Southern Crescent Association for Family Day Care.
The Southern Crescent is described as the four counties (Henry, Clayton, Fayette, and Spalding) south of I-285, which form a crescent moon shape on the map. And because providers came from these counties, the name was chosen to reflect the membership.
In 2006, the name of the Association was changed to Southern Crescent Association for Professional Child Care to recognize the changes in child care in our area and the importance of including other child care professionals – not only family child care providers.
As the Association has grown and changed with the community over the years, it has always reflected and encouraged diversity in every realm of the early childhood care and education environment.
Our main focus continues to be the quality and effectiveness of service we as child care professionals offer to the children in our homes, schools, and centers. We encourage all members to explore any opportunity to enrich their child care facilities including pursuing and expanding their own personal educational goals.
